Obituary

Frances Joann Shipp, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, December 30, 2016 at Diversicare of Council Grove in Council Grove, Kansas.

Born September 11, 1934 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of William Dewey and Pearl R. (Brooks) Slagle. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1952.

Joann worked at various jobs including Wal-Mart, Cessna and Gott, but made a lifelong career of being a housewife and homemaker. She married Wesley L. Parkerson, Jr. on June 15, 1952. To this union, a son, Rickey Coye and two daughters, Pamela Kay and Connie Sue were born. The couple later divorced. She was united in marriage to Harold E. Shipp on February 12, 1972 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Mr. Shipp preceded her in death on January 9, 2011.

Joann continued to live in Winfield until her health began to decline and she moved to the Council Grove area to be near family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her family includes:
Her son: Rickey Coye Parkerson and wife, Karma of Alta Vista, KS;
Her 2 granddaughters: April L. Parkerson and Teaha L. Chestnut; and
Numerous cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joann was preceded in death by her daughters, Pamela and Connie and her brother, Melvin Slagle.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday, January 5, 2016 from 3 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Joann's name for the Winfield American Legion. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
