Frances I. Heffron, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 24, 2022, at Cumbernauld Village.
Born November 19, 1927, on a farm near Winfield, she was the daughter of Burr C. and Edith S. (Benton) Russell. She was raised and received her education in the Winfield area attending grade school at Odessa, a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1944 and then attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater.
She was united in marriage to Ronal E. Heffron on February 23, 1947, in Winfield The couple made their home in rural Winfield. Frances was a highly sought after secretary who never had to look for a job. She worked for several area businesses including, Matthews, Taylor, and Krusor, Home National Bank, Criswell Oil, and was at Gordon Piatt for over 12 years. The couple also owned and operated Posey Creek Gardens from 1972 until 1991. Mr. Heffron preceded her in death on May 1, 2011.
Frances was a lifelong member of Hackney Community Baptist Church, where she served as a piano player. She was also a retired member of DAR, serving as Treasurer for several years. She enjoyed taking snapshots, knitting, crocheting, sewing, typing, and working on the computer. She had a gentle happy life as a farmer's wife for 63 years.
Her family includes her children, Richard Heffron of Belle Plaine; Marcia Mull of Winfield; her brother Ralph Russell and wife, Jacquelyn of Winfield; her grandchildren, Lyric Love and wife, Cristel of Peck; James Heffron and wife, Jasmine of Belle Plaine; John C. Mull and wife, Michelle of Winfield; Jeramy Mull and wife, Lori of Mt. Hope; Jennifer Preston of Andover; and her great grandchildren, Tyler Blake, Shelby Blake, Taylor Heffron, Kara Heffron, John R. Mull, Jack Mull, Jessica Mull, Isabelle Mull, Jonah Mull, Lane Preston, and Landon Preston.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Cynthia L. (Robins) Heffron, her son-in-law John O. Mull, and a sister Dorothy Plummer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Frances' name for Hackney Community Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
