Obituary

EVELYN MARIE BEAGLEY, 88, of Calera, Oklahoma and former Atlanta, Kansas resident, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2009 at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Oklahoma.

Born on January 29, 1920 in Latham, Kansas, she was the daughter of Claude Lee and Annie (Mueller) Baird. She was raised and received her education in Latham and graduated from Latham High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Otto Jerry (O.J.) Beagley on May 20, 1939 in Latham, Kansas. The couple made their first home on the Hickman Place, which is now covered by Butler Lake. They moved to Medicine Lodge in 1942 where they worked for Joe Gant until 1945. In 1946, the couple returned to Latham and farmed the Yaenter Farm. They returned to Medicine Lodge in 1952 to farm and ranch. In 1959 they started working for Ralph Chain Land and Cattle Company and Otto was the ranch manager. In 1986, they moved to Atlanta to oversee the Price Ranch for Ralph Chain. In 2004, following their retirement, the couple moved to Calera, Oklahoma to be near family. Mr. Otto preceded her in death on May 15, 2005.

She was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church and the Medicine Lodge Roping Club. She loved spending time with her family, reading, writing, poetry, horses and rodeos.

Her son: Jerry Dallas Beagley and wife Cristina of Calera, OK;
Her grandchildren: Martha and Brian Beagley;
Her step-grandchildren: Thiago and Danilo Scaramuzza;
Her foster-grandchildren: Sheri, Tami and Ricky Pyle; and
Her sisters: Betty Haworth of Atlanta, KS; and Claudia Barnickle of Wichita, KS.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her foster daughter, Birdie (Roberta) Hildebrand, and her brother, Willard Baird.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Atlanta Christian Church in Atlanta. Interment will follow at the Latham Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, January 9, 2009. The family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Evelyn's name for the Atlanta Community Building. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
