Ethel
Scott
September 30, 1934 – July 11, 2021
Ethel Scott, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, July 11, 2021, at her home.
Born September 30, 1934, in Kirk, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Herbert and Leah (Nelson) Finley. She was raised and received her education in Ethel, West Virginia, where she attended Logan High School.
Ethel spent her life as a caregiver. She began her career working for a family in West Virginia with a child that had special needs. Those she cared for were like family to her. She later worked for a teacher helping to raise the family's three children. In 1967, Ethel and her daughter moved to Winfield, Kansas, to help care for her brother's child that was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. While in Winfield, she worked in housekeeping at William Newton Hospital. She also helped maintain the home of Dr. James Winblad, and helped care for the family's daughter, Sonja. Her gift to care for others was never ending. She began working at Winfield Medical Arts as a Medical Assistant in the early 1970s until her retirement.
Ethel was united in marriage to Gilbert Scott on August 17, 1975, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. She genuinely enjoyed taking care of those in her neighborhood. All her neighbors knew her house was a place to go for snacks, or anything they needed. She knew not a stranger and had love to embrace all. Her commitment in everything she did, whether it be at work, at home, or in God's house, was one of true hope, love, and peace.
Her family includes her husband Gilbert Scott of Winfield; her daughter Denise Louderback and husband, Jay of Winfield; her stepchildren Lynn Scott of Chanute; Dianna Spurlock and husband, Jim of McMinnville, TN; Susane Colvin of Enid, OK; her brothers Saul Finley of Winfield; Bruce Finley of Ethel, WV; her 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her sisters, Faye Finley, Thelma Ingrahm, and Ann Toney, a brother Fred Finely, an infant great grandchild, and her special friend, Sonja Winblad.
