ETHEL PENINGER, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, January 19, 2015 at Winfield Resthaven.

Born on November 30, 1918 in Cherryvale, Kansas, she was the daughter of Elmer and Retta (Hanes) Harmon. Ethel received her education in southeastern Kansas and graduated from high school in 1936.

She was united in marriage to Louis Edward DeCoudres in 1937. They made their first home in Howard, Kansas and she was a homemaker. Ethel began working at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita in the mid 1950's. Mr. DeCoudres preceded her in death in 1957.

Ethel married LaVere L. Peninger on October 30, 1960 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple served at the Central Baptist Church and she also continued work at Boeing until the mid 1960's. She was employed at Litwin's Ready Wear for a short time. Mr. Peninger preceded her in death on March 8, 1987.

Ethel was a member of the Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafting and was an avid seamstress, making quilts for all of the family.

Her son: Dean DeCoudres and wife Jackie of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Greg, Mark and wife Pennie, Gina and husband Don, Brent, and Trent and wife Maci;
Her great-grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Jasmine, Monica and husband Dave, Tiffany and husband Troy, Derrick, Hallee, Ethan, Conner, Kinzi and Ashlyn; and
Her great-great-grandchildren: Hunter, Gage, Tinley and Kambrea.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin, Clarence & William Harmon, and her sister, Edna Cooper.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 21, 2015 and the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Ethel's name for the Central Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
