ERNEST N. PARISH, 90, of Cambridge, Kansas, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday evening, May 6, 2008 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
He was born on August 27, 1917 in Imboden, Arkansas. His parents were Samuel William and Minnie (Carey) Parish. At the age of four, he moved to the Burden area. He was educated in Burden, graduating Burden High School in 1936.
On April 18, 1937, he was united in marriage to Velma Marie Crowley in at the Douglass, Kansas Methodist Parsonage. Ernest worked with his dad at the grocery store in Burden. After marriage, he continued to work there until the store was sold and he and Velma moved to the farm in Cambridge. Ernest loved to ranch and raise his cattle.
He bought and operated the grocery store in Moline, Kansas for a few years and later owned and operated Parish Chevrolet Dealership in Burden for over 6 years. After the Chevrolet Dealership, Ernest went back to ranching and raising his cattle.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burden, and was very active until his illness within the last six weeks. He enjoyed all the activities that his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participated in as well as his beloved KU Jayhawks.
His family includes:

His son: William Scott Parish and wife Wanda of Chanute;
His daughters: Janet Steadman of Mulvane; and Gwenda Lumbert of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Mark Steadman, Brent Lumbert, Bradley Parish, Bart Parish, Deann Booher and Michael Ray;
His great grandchildren: Jason, Korbyn, Zackary, Kyler, Keaton, Tristan, Taylor, Teall, Lauren, Nicholas, Andrew, Ryan and Ella Marie; and
His great great granddaughter: Kylee.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Steadman.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.
