Erma "Marie" Barker, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Friday morning, January 30, 2015 at the Hutchinson Medical Center.
Born April 19, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Nathaniel and Erma (Shockey) Bell. She was raised and received her education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1941.
Marie was united in married to Kenneth E. "Red" Barker on February 5, 1950. The couple made their home in Winfield. Mrs. Barker worked in the ACS Office in Winfield making wheat loans between 1941 and 1951. She was a homemaker and stay at home mom between 1951 and 1967. From 1967 until her retirement in 1993, she worked as a school secretary at Whittier Elementary School, a job she loved. Mr. Barker preceded her in death on October 2, 1979.
Marie was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She was a very active member, serving as an Elder, Deaconess and a choir member. She also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered as a pink lady at William Newton Hospital.

Her 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Steven E. Barker, her grandchildren Miles Hosler and Brooke Barker, and her brother, James Bell.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Barker's name for USD 465 Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
