Erema Katherine Cooper, 70, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at her home.
Born December 21, 1951, in Vinita, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Charles Franklin and Wanda (Bauer) Caudill. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and attended Cowley County Community College.
Erema worked for the courthouse in Winfield, Home National Bank in Arkansas City, and the tag office in Garden City before going to work at the tag office in Sedgwick County. Following retirement, she went to work for Cheney Door Company where she was currently employed.
Erema was united in marriage to Gary Elwood Cooper on February 14, 1996 in Oklahoma. The couple loved to travel and took numerous cruises. Gary preceded her in death on November 17, 2020. Erema was attending Union Valley Bible Church in Hutchinson. She enjoyed sewing, camping, shopping, and gardening. She worked the ticket booth at the state fair for a number of years. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Erema's family includes her children, Tammy Powell of Winfield; Jimmy Claphan and wife, Jill of Wichita; Amanda Topinka and husband, Cale of Rose Hill; her step-children, Chris Cooper and wife Charlene of Hutchinson; Scott Cooper and wife, Amanda of Columbia, MO; her mother Wanda Caudill of Afton, OK; her grandchildren, Jimmy Lee Claphan, Megan (Austin) Morrow, Adara (Steven) Tiedeman, Cash Topinka, Chris Topinka, Adam, Ben, Ethan, Jace, Ryan, and Nick Cooper; her great grandchildren, Whitley Claphan, Easton Morrow, and one great grandson on the way; her sisters, Pat (Roger) Dobbins of Winfield; LaDonna (Paul) Caudill-Ratcliff of Grove, OK; Shawn DeVore of Dodge City; a special aunt Loyce Crow; her mother-in-law Sally Cooper of Osborne; special friends Mike Powell, and Ed and Vicki Wineland; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her husband, Erema was preceded in death by her father, Charles Caudill; her brothers, Tim and Terry Caudill, and a sister Julie Snyder.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 14, 2022, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. A visitation is scheduled from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors during this time. A memorial has been established in Erema's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
