ELSIE YOUNG BOLACK, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, March 10, 2014 at William Newton Hospital.
Born April 27, 1923 north of Winfield, she was the daughter of George W. and Verna (Sheeks) Young. At an early age, he father started working in the oil field. They lived in several communities, moving to Winfield in March 1940. Elsie graduated with the class of 1942.
After graduation, she worked at Co-op Grocery. On September 15, 1945, Elsie married Ivan Bolack. The couple farmed south of Burden and moved to Winfield in 1979. Ivan preceded her in death on July 2, 1983.
After her husband's death, Elsie worked part time at Graves Drug. She was a 4H leader, member of Eaton Community Club, Tisdale Extension Unit, Rossetti Circle, the Walnut Valley Bowling League, Cowley County Fair Auxiliary and was a board member of Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by:
Her sons: Louis Bolack of Tulsa, OK; and Ronald Bolack of Burden, KS;
Her daughter: Ivy Ann Kelley of Winfield;
Her 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren;
Her step-mother: Harriet Young; and
Half brother: Dennis Young.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Verna and her husband, Ivan.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family interment will take place at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A Memorial has been established in Elsie's name for Meals on Wheels. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
