Obituary

Elsie Becker, 100, of Leon, Kansas, passed away late Tuesday night, March 14, 2017 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Born December 20, 1916 in Ford County, Kansas, she was the daughter of Jake and Katie (Wedel) Schmidt. She was raised and received her education in western Kansas and Moundridge. Elsie was united in marriage to LaVerne Becker on October 2, 1937 in Newton, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Moundridge, moved to Marquette and eventually moved to a farm near Leon in 1950. They farmed and owned and operated a Dairy. LaVerne preceded her in death on January 13, 2012.

Elsie attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Atlanta and was baptized there with LaVerne in her 90's. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cows and dogs. She especially loved birdwatching and needlework. She never had idle hands.

Her daughters: Jackie Grow and husband, Gerald of Atlanta; Twila Flagler of Latham;
Her grandchildren: Ronda and Dave Post; Leta Hanna; Brian and Jeannie Grow; Sheila and Lance Handlin; Amanda and Jason Griffith;
Her great grandchildren: Shane and Sandy Anderson; Patrick Post; Monica and Jamie Crouch; Jake and Kelly D. Grow; Kelly Grow; Clayton Grow; Jandi Handlin; Lindsay Handlin; Levi Handlin; Dustin Handlin; Judd Griffith; Lucas Griffith; Haddie Griffith; and
Her great-great grandchildren: Josie Grow; Sidney Grace Anderson; and Taylor Anderson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by a great grandson, Nathan Hanna and eight siblings, Esther, Ervin, Susie, Irene, Neola, Edvin, Joe and Della.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Latham United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Latham Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 3 that afternoon.

A memorial has been established in Elsie's name for the Atlanta Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
