Elmer L. Madison, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2019 at Winfield Senior Living.
Born November 9, 1927 in Big Lake, Texas, he was the son of Harry O. and Leona M. (Kirkpatrick) Madison. He spent his early years in Texas and Oklahoma. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1945. Following school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Winfield.
Elmer was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Mitchell on July 4, 1947 in Winfield. Beginning in 1950, the family traveled while Elmer worked for Haliburton and Dow Chemical, living in various parts of Kansas, Texas, and Louisiana. In 1964, they returned to Winfield and Elmer worked for a short time at Cessna and Worldwide Construction. He then began his career as a purchaser with Jarvis Auto Supply, where he remained for over 20 years. Following retirement, the couple wintered in south Texas where they enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. Elmer loved being with his grandkids. He was a member of First Christian Church in Winfield and was recently attending Aviator Church. Shirley preceded him in death on March 5, 2015.
His family includes his daughters, Kris Moore of Winfield; Kathy Stewart and husband, Lynn of Edmond, OK; his grandchildren, Jeff Russell and partner, Mike Reynolds of Emporia; Justin Moore and wife, Lisa of Rose Hill; Jaime Perkins and husband, Phil of Edmond, OK; Laura Foutch of Edmond, OK; and his great grandchildren, Tyler Moore, Brandon Moore, Mia Perkins, Hadlee Foutch, and Austen Perkins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Elmer was preceded in death by a brother, Donald C. Madison, a sister, Rennis M. Thomas, and two great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Alyssa Russell.
Graveside funeral services and Military Committal Honors will be held Wednesday morning, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery south of Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Elmer's name for RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
