ELIZABETH M. "BETTE" HEIMER, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, June 21, 2010 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born on April 22, 1920 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Albert E. and Pearl I. (Rodman) Kimsey. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and Arkansas City where she graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1938. Bette returned to Winfield where she attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing for two years and studied nursing.
She was united in marriage on June 11, 1939 to Price W. Heimer in Moore, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. Bette was employed at William Newton Memorial Hospital as a registered radiology technician. She later became supervisor of the radiology department and held that position for 18 years before retiring in 1972. In the early 1980's the couple moved to Grove, Oklahoma and lived on Grand Lake for 9 years before returning to Winfield. Mr. Heimer preceded her in death on January 30, 2003.
Bette was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron and the Kickapoo Campers Club. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, fishing, camping, gardening and flowers.

Her brothers: Vernon Kimsey of Medicine Lodge, KS; Don Kimsey of Winfield, KS; and Albert Kimsey Jr., of Arkansas City, KS;
Her grandchildren: Anna Powell and husband Ryan, Erich Heimer and wife Teresa, Craig M. Shanks and wife Pamela, Kristin Davis and husband Greg, and Ryan M. Shanks and wife Genna; and
Her great-grandchildren: Riley, Peyton and Jailen Powell, Jack Heimer and Amy Briggs, Meghan and Caitlin Shanks, Alex and Zachary Davis, and Michaela and Madison Shanks.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Smaller and Sue Lindberg.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 until service time.
A memorial has been established in Bette's name for the American Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
