Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Nirschl, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, January 3, 2015, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born October 4, 1938, in Kingman, Kansas, she was the second of nine children born to Charles William and Helen Rose (Henning) Nirschl. She was raised and received home schooling by her foster mother Grace Brittain.
In 1956 Betty Lou moved to Parsons State Hospital in Parsons, Kansas. She was later transferred to Larned State Hospital, and then Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in Winfield, Kansas. In 1972 she moved to Cherryvale, Kansas and in 1992 returned to Winfield, where she resided at Focus Development Center and later SouthWind ResCare.
Betty Lou enjoyed watching television, listening to country music, coloring, attending dances, playing catch, and working on arts and crafts.

Her sisters: Judy Bennett of Cleveland, NC; Vicki Cruse of O'Fallon, MO; Debbie Wright of Blue Springs, MO; and
Her many friends and caregivers at SouthWind ResCare in Winfield.
In addition to her parents Betty Lou was preceded in death by her foster mother, Grace Brittain.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
