Edward Bowles, Sr., 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, January 23, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born August 24, 1924 in West Virginia, he was the son of Wylie and Regina (Roche) Bowles. He was raised and received his education in West Virginia. At the age of 18, Ed entered the United States Marines. He proudly served his country until being wounded in WWII, receiving a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge. Following the Marines, Ed returned to West Virginia where he was a coal miner. He was later declared paralyzed on his left side and unable to work. In 1974, Ed moved to Wichita, Kansas.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing pool. He especially enjoyed giving away candy to anyone he could.
His family includes his sons, Edward Bowles, Jr. and wife, Ozeda of Haysville; Richard Bowles and wife, Sandra of Haysville; his grandchildren, Jeff Bowles and Teresa Bowles; and his great grandchildren, Kyle Bowles, Hayley Bowles, Kellsi Jackson, and Raelynn McFaul.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a son, Tony Bowles, two brothers, two sisters, and a half brother.
Graveside funeral services and Military Committal Honors will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Ed's name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
