Obituary

Edward E. "Ed" Staton, 76, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away November 28, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospice in Gulf Port, Mississippi.

Born December 29, 1939 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Don and Cecil Irene (Roberds) Staton. He was raised and received his education in western Kansas, including Haven, Greensburg and Garden City. After school, he joined the United States Navy in 1957 and was stationed in Long Beach, California. While in Long Beach, Ed married Diane Kerfoot. To this union, a daughter was born. The couple later divorced.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1961, Ed returned to Winfield, Kansas. He was united in marriage to DeLoris Brake in 1963 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Winfield where Ed worked at General Electric. They later moved to Cherryvale, where he worked as a Police Officer, then moved to Independence, where Ed was a driver for Coca-Cola. He then returned to law enforcement, working as a Police Officer in Oxford and Caldwell. While living in Caldwell he began working in the oil fields. Following his divorce from DeLoris in 1983, he moved to Nebraska where he continued working in the oil fields. Ed later worked as a truck driver, living in Kansas, Alabama and retiring in Mississippi.

He enjoyed bowling, boating, coaching, driving in demolition derbies, and going to casinos.

His family includes:
His daughters: Deborah Kirkpatrick and husband, Glen of San Diego, CA; Tammy Waters and husband, Dennis of Arkansas City;
His son: Jeff Staton and wife, Nicol of Ponca City, OK;
His brothers: Harold Glen Staton and wife, Pat of Edgewood, TX; Jerry Staton and wife, Edwina of Girard; Tom Staton and wife, Sally of Phoenix City, AL;
His sister-in-law: Norma Staton of Carrollton, TX;
His grandchildren: Russell Kirkpatrick, Trevor Kirkpatrick, Terrance Kirkpatrick, Kayla Waters, Cody Waters, Chris White, Rayden Staton; and
His great grandchildren: Zion, Kynlee, Raelhei.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta and three brothers, Richard, Orville, and Billie.

The family will hold inurnment with Military Committal Honors at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 16, 2016. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Ed's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
