Born December 9, 1921 in Coldwater, Kansas, she was the daughter of Loren Roy and Marie E. (Lohording) Lytle. She was raised and received her education in Southwest Kansas. She attended high school in Wilmore, Dodge City, and Medicine Lodge, graduating from Medicine Lodge High School in 1940. In 1941, she moved to Winfield to study to be a nurse.

Marie was united in marriage to Lorane Wayne Butler on December 16, 1943. The couple made their home in Winfield and Marie remained in the home as a homemaker until the children were raised. She then worked as a lab assistant at Snyder Research Foundation for over 18 years until retiring in 1985. Mr. Butler preceded her in death on December 21, 1969.

She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church as well as the Shady Ladies, a volunteer group at the church. She loved her children and family and enjoyed going out for coffee with them. She was a wonderful listener. Marie commented, one of her fondest memories was spending two weeks every summer, when she was younger, with her cousin, Betty Keech.

Her family includes her daughter Linda Bowlby and husband, Harvey of Winfield; her son Norman Butler and wife, Janet of Burden; her grandchildren, Loren Carl Butler, Brian Pike, Jason Pike, Jessica Pike, Kendra Baker, Chris Bowlby, Julie VanDeburgh, Dawn Marino, Scott Butler, Sarah Estenson; and her 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her brother Vernon Lytle, her sister Betty May Harper, and a son Lorane "Jay" Butler.
