Obituary

Edith L. Wells, 101, of Mulvane, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, July 12, 2012 at Villa Maria in Mulvane.

Born January 19, 1911 on a farm north of Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Thomas Ervin and Angeline Roth (Knox) King. She was raised and received her early education at Grandview grade school and later attended Winfield High School graduating in 1929. She then attended Wichita Business College.

Edith married Russell S. Reisinger on August 22, 1932 at Grandview United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Hackney before moving to a farm north of Winfield. Edith was a farm wife and a loving homemaker. In 1943 the family moved to Kansas City where Edith went to work for Quick Service Letter Company. Mr. Reisinger preceded her in death.

On September 16, 1960 Edith was united in marriage to Russell Wells at Central United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Kansas City before retiring and moving to a farm in the Ozarks. After a couple of years in the Ozarks they moved to Golden City, Missouri. Mr. Wells preceded her in death in 1987. In 1997 Edith moved to Mulvane, Kansas to be near her family and was a volunteer at Villa Maria.

Edith was a member of the First Assembly of God Church the REBEKAH Lodge. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, crocheting, cooking and reading. She especially loved getting together with her brothers and sisters for their monthly sibling dinner.

Her daughter: Leila Jean Stevens and husband, Warren of Glade;
Her stepson: Wayne Wells and wife, Mae of Stover, MO;
Her stepdaughters: Darlene Thurman and husband, Mack of Tucson, AZ; Shirley Doughty of Bisbee, AZ;
Her son-in-law: Richard Higgs of Mulvane;
Her brothers: John Robert King of Winfield; Ralph Wesley King of Wichita;
Her sisters: Mary Martha Spencer of Winfield; Thelma Ruth Brown of Lamar, MO;
Her 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles "Raymond" Scotty King and Roy M. King, 2 sister, Muriel Esther Friend and Inez Lora Foster, one daughter, Lorene J Higgs, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 1:30 P.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Edith's name for the REBEKAH Lodge. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
