A busy life came to a close on Friday, September 11, 2015 when Pastor McClure was called to his heavenly home.
Earnest was born on June 27, 1930 in Wetumka, Oklahoma, to Melton and Malara (Daniel) McClure. He was raised and received his education in Wetumka, graduating from Wetumka High School in 1947. In his younger years, Pastor McClure worked various jobs in the Wichita packing plant's (Cudahy Packing), bus driver for the Wichita schools, the Wichita Childrens' Home, construction for military installations, and he had been employed by various other companies.
He was married and to that union a daughter, Norma Kay, was born. Earnest started preaching in 1954 and was ordained by W.C. Thomas of Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1973. For the next three years, before coming to Winfield, Earnest was a supply preacher in 10 different churches in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona. He was called as pastor of the Second Baptist Church in 1976.
A veteran of World War II., Rev. McClure proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Medic from September 30, 1955 to September 27, 1957.
He had been a loyal supporter of the Winfield Ministerial Association, the association's Lenten breakfasts at First Presbyterian Church and it's summer services at Memorial Park. Earnest had also been vice president of the Crop Walk and for 14 years has been pastoral counsel for the Kansas Southwest District of the National Baptist Convention. He had been a member of the Brotherhood Quartet. Earnest showed tremendous support of not only local congregations, but of many across Kansas and Oklahoma. He never refused to help any worthy cause and would never forget about the church.
Earnest enjoyed preaching, eating and was a stranger to no one.
His family includes:
His granddaughters: Tracy and Teresa Dial.
