EARL ASBURY, 88, of Latham, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, May 5, 2010 at his home.
Born on January 3, 1922 in Winfield, he was the son of Ralph and Edith (Barnhart) Asbury. He received his education at Prairie Flower school. He began farming at an early age, helping the family on the farm.
Earl was united in marriage to Aileen Cousins on April 13, 1941 in Peru, Kansas, The couple made their first home west of Cedar Vale, Kansas. In 1943, they moved south of Winfield and in 1950 moved to Latham, Kansas. Earl was a longtime farmer and cattle rancher retiring in 2009.
He was a member of the Latham Christian Church. Earl also was a member of the National Trappers Association and had served on the Atlanta Coop board and the Harvey Township board. He won several conservation and farm awards and won awards for grassland management. He had also won Sportsman of the Year award. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and country music.

His sisters: Florella Hankins of Winfield, KS; Ruth Barger Stevens and husband Asa of Winfield, KS; Charlotte Cousins and husband Bill of Haysville, KS;
His grandchildren: Jonna Stowell, Tina Asbury, Matt Everett, Marcy Helzer and Melisa Wingfield;
His great-grandchildren: Tori, Trent, Jon, Joe, Brandon, Tommy, Cata and Tony; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley and Orva.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Earl's name be made to the Kansas Furharvesters Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
