Obituary

Eardley D. Scadden, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, February 15, 2020 at the Kansas Veterans Home.

He was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on October 4, 1925 to Eardley and Eva (Steel) Scadden. He joined the Army Air Corp on January 20, 1944 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and served as a teletype operator during World War II. He received an honorable discharge on May 4, 1946, following the end of the war in the Pacific. Eardley then returned to the family home in St. Joseph, Missouri, and met Georgia Livesay dancing at "The Frog Hop" and the couple married on July 18, 1949. They were married for 69 years.

Eardley and Georgia made their home in Denver, Colorado, and raised a family there. Eardley retired from Gates Rubber Company on April 1, 1988, after 37 years of service. His interest include reading, westerns, dancing, John Wayne, puzzles, and watching sports. He was known to say he only liked two kinds of pie: hot and cold. Georgia preceded him in death on May 28, 2019.

Eardley is survived by his brother Raymond Scadden (Barbara); sons, Kurt Scadden (Enid); Lee Scadden; daughter Vicky Sprengeler (Howard); granddaughter Rachel Knowles (Daniel); grandson Patrick Scadden; and great grandchildren, Simon Regier and Elizabeth Scadden.

In addition to his parents and wife, Eardley was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Lyra Regier.

Following Eardley's cremation, he and Georgia's ashes will be buried together in Aurora, Colorado per their request. A memorial service is scheduled at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 21, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Eardley's name for the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
