Obituary

Dwain G. Rice, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at his home.

Born July 5, 1960 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Garland Rice and Lorraine (Young) Butler. He was raised and received his education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1978. While in high school he also attended Cowley County Community College where he received a degree in welding.

Dwain worked for a short time building guitars at Mossman Guitars, and welding at Spring Machine, before beginning his career at Boeing in 1978. He remained at Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems for over 40 years, retiring as an Inspector with the Corrective Actions Unit in 2020.

He was united in marriage to Tammy Bishop on December 12, 1980 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Oxford, Kansas, and in 1983 returned to rural Winfield. To this union four sons were born. The couple later divorced.

Dwain enjoyed playing Bluegrass Music, fishing, hunting, watching his sons in their activities, helping Josh check and work cattle, and going on Ranger rides with his grand dog. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his boys.

His family includes his sons, Josh Rice and wife, Lindsey of Burden; Cody Rice of Springfield, MO; Skyler Rice of San Antonio, TX; Colin Rice of Winfield; his father Garland Rice and wife, Annie of Derby; his mother Lorraine Butler and husband, Jim of Arkansas City; his brothers, Steve Butler and wife, Zee of Parkerfield; Page Butler of Winfield; his step-sisters, Mindy Carnes of Derby; Pamela Gasaway of Derby; Jamie Kaiser of Kansas City; his step-brother David Butler and wife, Carlye of Winfield; his grand dog Chink; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dwain was preceded in death by his sister Diana McKnight.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 16, 2021 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday April 15 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors that evening.

A memorial has been established in Dwain's name for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cowley County. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
