Obituary

DWAIN O. LAUPPE, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, August 30, 2012 at his home.

Born November 14, 1936 in Winfield, he was the son of Harold O. and Elizabeth Ione (Ruggles) Lauppe. He was raised and received his education in rural Winfield and Burden, graduating from Burden High School. He attended Cowley County Community College.

As a young man, Dwain worked for local farmers, a roofing company and for Armors Creamery. He entered the United States Navy in 1957. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the Airman branch of the Navy. He served as a firefighter on the crash crew and also worked in aircraft refueling on the aircraft carrier, USS Essex. He was honorably discharged in 1961.

Dwain was united in marriage to Frances Jaurene Dennis on August 24, 1958 at the First Baptist Church in Burden. The couple lived in Texas while Dwain served in the Navy, and returned to rural Burden for a short time before moving to the family farm in 1968. Dwain worked in Burden for Bailey Water Drilling and also Gene Bair's Station. He later worked for the Cowley County Highway Department and for the Sheridan Township maintaining roads. He retired in January of 1999. Dwain continued farming after retirement.

He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Burden. He was a member of the Sunflower Outreach Services which operates Joseph's Storehouse and served as Vise President on that board. Dwain was an elected official of the Sheridan Township where he served as treasurer for several years.

Dwain's legacy lives on through:

His children: LaFawn Jaurene Yost and husband, Trevor of Lawrence, KS; Dawn Jonelle Harms and husband, Michael of LeMars, IA; Lona Kay Beltz and husband, Robert of Cincinnati, OH; and Steven Douglas Lauppe and wife, Zandra of Arkansas City, KS;
His brother: George Merrill Lauppe and wife, Marceil of Lawrence, KS;
His sister: Darlene Hart and husband, Neal of Lawrence, KS;
His grandchildren: Seth Yost, Adrienne Yost, Spenser Harms, Alexis Harms, Lauren Hicks, Joshua Dwain Beltz, Skylar Lauppe and Brenden Lauppe;
His great grandchildren: Gage Hicks and Amy Yost; and
A Host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ione.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Mr. Lauppe's name for the First Baptist Church of Burden and for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
