DURWOOD D. "WOODY" SCHEFFE, 75, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, March 14, 2009, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born September 23, 1933 in Okeene, Oklahoma, he was the son of Lawrence E. and Jennie C. (Lubbers) Scheffe. Woody was raised and educated in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was united in marriage to Iliene M. Fox on May 9, 1970 at the William Newton Memorial Hospital Chapel. The couple made their first home in Middletown, Ohio.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Ship Service Man from March 1, 1952 until his honorable discharge on February 23, 1956.
As a young man, Woody worked for Gold Spot Dairy, Safeway-Bandfield Packing and later worked for Lear Jet, Cessna, Boeing and Arenoca Aircraft. He also did farming with his father-in-law. He retired as Grade 6 Lead from Boeing Aircraft on April 30, 1998.
He was a member of the Burden Baptist Church as well as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Wheatlanders CB Club. His hobbies included making barbeque sauce, barbequing, gardening, and working with his tractor.

His brothers: Art Scheffe of Grove, OK; and Lawrence Scheffe of Wichita; and
His sisters: Violet Nichols of St. Moore, OK; and Carolyn Anderson of Simi Valley, CA; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 9. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
