Obituary

Duane Anderson, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away October 24, 2024 at Hillsboro Cove in Marion County, Kansas.

Duane was born January 11,1947 in Wichita, Kansas to Robert Lee and Betty Joyce (Schmitt) Anderson. He grew up in Little River, Kansas where he played football. He was selected to All Conference League Team.

Duane and Betty (Thompson) were united in marriage February 19, 1966 at First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, KS. They made their home in Wichita where Duane worked for the City of Wichita. Their son, Chad, and daughter, Carina were born in Wichita. He was a member of First Christian Church in Winfield.

Duane retired from the US Post Office in 2009 after 33 years, bought a 5th wheel trailer and began traveling. He pulled the camper to over 30 states and twice to Canada. Duane was a Cubmaster, Assistant Scout Master, Girl Scout member with his daughter, served on Four Winds Girl Scout camp committee and camp caretaker of Camp Bradbury. He enjoyed his trips with boy and girl scout troops. He was a member of National Audubon Society, charter member of Kansas Ornithological Society. Looked forward to participating each December in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Duane was actively involved in helping with Winfield Lions Club and the Cowley County Humane Society.

Duane loved going to old car swap meets and tractor shows with his son, brothers, and Dad. He loved his family and the time spent with them, birdwatching, fishing, and camping, Predeceased by his parents and his brother Dennis.

Survived by wife Betty, son Chad (Bobbi) of Leon, daughter Carina of Winfield, grandson Cody (Jamie) of Garden Plain, great grandchildren Jonathan, Hayleigh, William, and Bekah. His sister Sharon of Hutchison, brother Sheldon (Sharon) of Little River, brother in-law Curtis (Bernice) Thompson, Edmond, OK, sister-in-law Karen Barefield of Minneapolis, KS. And nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 8, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.  A private graveside service at Bean Cemetery at Little River, Kansas has taken place.

Memorials for Duane are with Cowley County Humane Society and Kansas Ornithological Society (KOS). Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
