Obituary

Douglas E. Sisson, 61, of Winfield, Kansas passed away at his home Friday morning December 31, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born December 25, 1949 in Wellington, Kansas, he was the son of Edgar and Doris (McDaniel) Sisson. He was reared and educated in Dodge City, KS from 1949 to 1960. His family then moved to Winfield, where he worked as a paperboy for the Winfield Daily Courier. Doug worked at The KuKu, a fast food restaurant and Bird's Rexall Drugstore, both in Winfield.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Turner in 1969 at the First Christian Church in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield, Kansas. Doug graduated from Southwestern College and went to work for Farrow, Stone and Blubaugh C.P.A. firm in Claremore, Oklahoma. He then joined the Air National Guard, at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. As Master Sergeant, he retired and was honorably discharged after 20 years of service. For a time, Doug worked for Koch Industries in Wichita, KS and then Gordon-Piatt in Winfield, KS. He gained employment at Galaxy Tool, in Winfield, KS as the controller and at the time of his death he was the Chief Financial Officer.

Doug was a regular attending member of the First Christian Church since 1960. He was involved in numerous organizations; The Winfield Jaycees, MCF- Men's Christian Fellowship of FCC. He served on the Winfield Planning Commission. Doug was role model for not only his sons but for all who knew him. He set a fine example of a loyal and committed son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a gentle giant, patient, kind and loving. He was a man of sound advice and great sense of humor. His hobbies included maintaining his yard and home in the country. He was very lucky playing his favorite slot machine, the Star Spangled 7. Doug loved his church and having his family near him.

His sons: Scott Douglass Sisson of Winfield; Matthew Sisson of Haysville, KS and Nicholas Sisson and his wife Amanda of Wichita, KS;
His father: Edgar Sisson of Winfield, KS;
His brother: Kent Sisson of Belle Plaine, KS;
His sisters: Janet Scherdin of Wichita, KS and Ellen Hill of Manhattan, KS;
His grandchildren: Baden and Madison Sisson of Winfield, KS.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Sisson.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 2:00 P.M., at the First Christian Church in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials have been established in Doug's name for the First Christian Church and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
