Obituary

Douglas Allen Miller, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, went home, January 1, 2023, at Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital in Wichita.

Born October 29, 1955, in Winfield, he was the son of Philip S. and Alene Sue (Graham) Miller. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1973. He graduated from Cowley County Community College in 1975 and Southwestern College in 1977, with a Bachelor in Accounting. While in school, Doug helped on the farm that was established by his family in 1874. He was also a custom hay hauler and worked at the Hickman Dairy.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Spengler on May 22, 1976, at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The couple made their home on the family farm for their entire married life. Doug began his career at Binney & Smith in maintenance in 1978, and remained for 20 years, until its closing. While at Binney & Smith, he worked in several capacities, including molding, supervisor of crayons, purchasing, and Logistics Manager. In 1999, he began working as the Logistics Manager for Kanpak where he remained until retiring in June 2021.

He was a very active member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, Brothers in Blue, the Lion's Club, and the Giddeon's. Doug was an avid traveler and loved history. He visited 49 states and enjoyed visiting cemeteries and recording information about Civil War veterans. He had visited all but two state historical museums. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. His favorite trips were the ones they were on. He was their biggest fan, never missing a game or an event they were involved with. He often said, "I have the best grandkids, everyone always says they have the best grandkids, but if they knew my grandkids they wouldn't be able to say that."

His family includes his wife Marilyn Miller of Winfield; his daughters, Kristin Priest and husband, Brad of Winfield; Sarah Owens and husband, Sladden of Winfield; his sisters, Sara Pines and husband, David of Winfield; Linda Copeland and husband, Tim of Lindsborg; his grandchildren, Caleb Weathers, Abby Weathers, Andru Owens, Corban Priest, Ethan Owens, Jillian Priest, and Olivia Owens; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a daughter, Molly Weathers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Tisdale United Methodist Church. Private family interment will be held at Tisdale Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
