Obituary

Dorthey May Askins, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, August 28, 2009 at her home.

Born May 15, 1926 in Chetopa, KS, she was the daughter of Clyde Harold and Ottie Jane (Rogers) Davis. She was raised and received her education all over south eastern Kansas and north eastern Oklahoma. She attended high school in Winfield.

She was united in marriage on October 15, 1944 to Cecil Nile Askins in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Dorthey worked as a Nurse Aid at William Newton Memorial Hospital for over 45 years until her retirement in 1996. The family enjoyed vacationing at Buffalo River National Park in Arkansas.

She enjoyed plants, gardening, bird watching, Blue Grass, raising dogs, horses, farming, and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her family includes:
Her husband: Cecil of the home;
Her sons: Micheal Askins and wife, Linda of Winfield; Timothy Askins of Winfield;
Her daughters: Diana Rathbun and husband, Doug of Winfield; Cheryl Hass and husband Glen of Nowata, OK; Leisa Potts and husband, Kevin of Winfield; Anna McClung and husband, Kevin of Winfield;
Her brother: Peter Davis and wife, Maxine of Winfield; and
Her 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Dorthey was preceded in death by a granddaughter Barbara Robertson, a grandson Timothy Ty Askins, and a great-grandson Corbin Adair Rathbun.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Dorthey's name for Hospice Care Of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
