Dorothy Laverne Steeves Clower, 99, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013.
Born July 14, 1914 in Haswell, Colorado, she was the daughter of Harry Paul and Eva Mae (Yockey) Steeves. In 1917 they returned to the family farm between Altoona and Thayer, Kansas, where Dorothy was raised and received her education.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph Clower on May 6, 1937 in Oswego, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Thayer. In 1939 they moved to a farm just outside of Thayer. In 1945 the family moved to Chanute, Kansas, and in 1948 they moved to Winfield. They lived in New Salem from 1952 until 1955 when they returned to Winfield. Dorothy worked as a manager at "Peter Pan Ice Cream" in Winfield from 1956 to 1964. She later worked at both Shoemart and King's Dress Shop. Dorothy made her lifelong career as a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mr. Clower preceded her in death on December 24, 1995.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield, where she was active in both the Circle Group and the Quilting Group. She enjoyed sewing and baking. In addition to teaching sewing in 4H she also made all of her children's clothes when they were younger as well as making outfits for her grandchildren. She was an expert baker specializing in pastries and pies.

Her grandchildren: Julie Hoelscher and husband, Eric of Harlingen, TX; Kathy Forsythe and husband, Steven of Brisbane, Australia; Lori Hooper and husband, Jonathan of Ponca City, OK; Todd Bennett and wife, Michelle of Phoenix, AZ; Terri West of Arkansas City; Ty Bennett and wife, Sheila of Cambridge; Kelly Heisler of Pawnee, OK; Mandy Evans and husband, Brandon of Winfield; Lacy Clower of Orlando, FL; Lexy McNew and husband, Aaron of Ozark, MO; Chad Brothers of Kansas City; Zee Butler and husband, Stephen of Arkansas City;
Her 28 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and
Her caregiver: Donna Brankel of Rock.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Clower was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harry and Forrest Steeves.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 26, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the church prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. The family will greet visitors at this time.
A memorial has been established in Dorothy's name for Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
