DOROTHY MAY SHENEMAN, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2012 at Cumbernauld Village.
Dorothy was the daughter of Robbie O. and Edna B. (Ogden) Nelson. She was born on May 28, 1920 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Winfield and later lived in the Village East Apartments which was built on that site. She was a resident there until moving to Cumbernauld Village in 2006.
Dorothy graduated from Winfield High School in 1938 and from Southwestern College in 1942. After graduation, she taught business subjects in high schools at Dexter, Belle Plaine and Cambrigde.
On May 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Walter E. Sheneman and was a housewife and part-time bookkeeper for Sheneman Meats. Walter died February 20, 1974. After Walt's death, Dorothy worked in several offices in Winfield. The last being for Marion P. Mathews which she retired from in 2001.
Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church, Village East Board of Directors, Winfield Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include:
Her son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Mary Sheneman of Fayetteville, Arkansas;
Her granddaughter: Lacey Seemann and husband, Phil of Kansas City, Missouri;
Her great granddaughter: Clara Seemann; and
Her Niece: Vickie A. (Nelson) Zeltner of Kansas City, Missouri;
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robbie and Edna Nelson, her husband, Walter and her brother, Bobby L. Nelson.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside memorial services will be held at Highland Cemetery on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E 9th Ave, Winfield, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Mrs. Sheneman's name for Hospice Care of Kansas, 917 Main Street, Winfield, KS 67156. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
