DOROTHY ROWE, 96, died Sunday evening, September 4, 2011 at the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor.
Dorothy was born July 23, 1915. She was the daughter of Samuel and Ivory (Keith) Bell. She was raised on a small farm near Udall, Kansas.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Merle Rowe on July 11, 1936 in the parsonage of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Merle preceded her in death on June 9, 1985.
She was employed by Binney & Smith Crayola Company for over fifty years. She worked in the crayon labeling department. Dorothy retired in 1980 and returned a few years later to be tour guide. Dorothy was a proud member of the Binney & Smith 25-year club as well as her social club, "Idle Times" where she and her close friends met for cake and gossip for over forty years. She was also involved for a number of years with the Walnut Valley chapter of the "Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers" and the "Rebels Camping Club".
Dorothy is survived by:
Her daughter: Deborah Johnke and husband, Craig of St. Louis;
Her son-in-law: Robert Stuart;
Her four grandchildren: Michelle Bergin of New York; Melanie Campbell of Topeka; Aaron Johnke of St. Louis; and Andrea LeVan of St. Louis; and
Her five great-grandchildren: Blake Johnke, Mackenzie and Harrison Bergin, and Stuart and Paloma Campbell.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Stuart and her siblings, Roy Park Bell, Lloyd Bell, Ralph Bell, Laura Johnson, Marie McCurry and Robert Bell.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Following the service, a small reception will be held for close friends and family at Baden Square.
Memorials have been established in Dorothy's name for the American Heart Association and for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
