Dorothy Alene Keesey, 92, of rural Burden, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 18, 2018 at William Newton Hospital.
Born April 12, 1926 in Braman, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Nathan Forrest and Margaret Olive (Cross) Cain. She was raised and received her education in Braman, graduating from Braman High School in 1944. She worked at Cessna and the Winfield State Hospital as a young woman.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold L. Keesey on June 3, 1966 in Burden. The couple made their home and farmed in the Burden area. Dorothy made a career being a farmer's wife and homemaker. Harold preceded her in death on April 6, 2011.
Dorothy was a member of the Burden Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, puzzles, and playing cards. She especially loved being with family and socializing with everyone.
Her family includes her daughter Denise Wood and husband, Phillip of Burden; her son Steven Swope and wife Donna of Arkansas City; her grandchildren, Jotham LaPorte and wife, Ellie of Ringgold, GA; Catrina Zielinski and husband, Mike of Burns; Thaddeus LaPorte and wife, Jessica of Randolph, MN; Nicole Krueger and husband, William of Burden; Chase LaPorte of Burden; and her 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Swope, four brothers, and four sisters.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Burden Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow at New Salem Cemetery northeast of Winfield. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 5 to 7 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Dorothy's name for the Burden Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
