Dorothy "Janet" Holt, 87, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, March 27, 2017 at Winfield Senior Living.
Born July 16, 1929 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Glenn E. and Emma Lou (Messerli) Yoder. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1947. She went on to attend Southwestern College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 1951. Following school, Janet taught vocal music lessons for grades Kindergarten through 12th in Buhler, Florence, Fredonia and Wichita, until 1960.
Janet was united in marriage to Leonard C. Holt on June 9, 1957 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home west of Atlanta, Kansas where Janet made a lifelong career being a devoted homemaker. She taught private piano and voice lessons from 1961 to 1967 and worked as a Teacher's Aide and Librarian from 1975 to 1993. She was a very active member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including both adult and elementary age Sunday School teacher. She also served as the church organist and pianist from 1966 to 2014. She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Women and the Douglass United Methodist Women.

Her grandchildren: Taylor Holt and Jon Carlson of Ottawa; Allison Palmer and husband, Nathan of Lenexa; Austin Holt of Atlanta; and Ashley Weis of Shawnee.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Yoder and an infant son, Craig Calvin Holt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Memorials have been established in Janet's name for Prairie View United Methodist Church and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
