Dorothy "Freda" Hatfield, 97, of Oxford, Kansas, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2017 at The Joy Home.
Born September 5, 1919 in Weymouth, Dorsett County, England, she was the daughter of John and Hilda Bessie Lazarus. She was raised and received her education in England.
Freda was united in marriage to Riley J. Hatfield on April 30, 1945 in Weymouth, Dorsett County, England. Following WWII, the couple moved to Niotaze, Kansas, where they farmed until moving to Winfield in 1948. Mr. Hatfield preceded her in death on March 22, 1988.
Freda was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wellington. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking pies and cookies and drinking tea with other war brides in the area.

Her grandchildren: Tim Hatfield and wife, Tammy of Madison, MS; Marc Hatfield and wife, Amy of Brenham, TX; Shamra Hatfield of Gallatin, TN; Jennifer Hatfield of Oxford; and
Six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Freda was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Wayne Hatfield and one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Freda's name for Easter Seal Capper Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
