Obituary

Doris Jean Vossen, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, June 2, 2016 at her home.

Born January 31, 1930 in Independence, Kansas, she was the daughter of Earl and Cora (Wesner) Wise. She was raised in Peru and attended school in Sedan. She graduated from Sedan High School in 1948.

Doris was united in marriage to Donald E. Vossen on November 2, 1956 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Wichita, Kansas and later in Great Bend and Enid before moving to Winfield in 1970. Doris began working as a Certified Nurse's Aide at Highland Nursing Home in Winfield. She later became a Med Aide and worked at SouthWind ResCare. While at SouthWind, she obtained her license as a Restorative Aide and began working in Therapy with residents. After retiring due to health concerns, she continued to sew and mend clothes for the residents. Don preceded her in death on August 12, 2014.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, working puzzles and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

Her family includes:
Her sons: Bruce Vossen of Pawhuska, OK; Brian Vossen and wife, Nancy of Branson, MO;
Her daughters: Lisa Thayer and husband, Everett of McAlester, OK; Danete Foust of Winfield; Tammy Drouhard and husband, Chris of Winfield;
Her brother: Dean Wise of Kingston, OK;
Her nephew: Bobby Whitekeller and wife, Rita of Broken Arrow, OK;
Her niece: Debbie Grabler and husband, Gary of Portland, OR;
Her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Whitekeller.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Doris' name for the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
