Doris A. (Barnes) Cantrell-Stevenson, 103, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

Doris was born July 2, 1919, in Grenola, Kansas, the second of four children, to Robert L. Barnes and Stella M. Crowther- Barnes. Doris was reared and educated in Grenola Independent Grade School and Grenola High School and completed her education at Winfield High School after the family moved to Winfield in the spring of 1937 to operate the Sunrise Dairy. She attended beauty school in Wichita after high school and was a beautician for a short period of time before marrying Robert Victor (Cobby) Cantrell, Jr. on January 28, 1942. They had three children; Jerry Joe, born October 25, 1943; Cathy Ann, born November 5, 1949; and Tony Lee, born October 14, 1959.

Doris lost Cobby on August 17, 1974, while he was working for Cessna at Strother Field.

On November 28, 1980, Doris married Merle Stevenson. Merle and Doris lived on the farm until April 1983 when the farm was sold, and they moved to town. Doris and Merle divorced in October 1987 but remained friends and companions until Merle passed away on April 22, 2004. Doris resided at Cumbernauld Village from 2014 to 2020 when she moved to Alderbrook Village in Arkansas City where she resided at the time of her death.

Doris was a member of the Walnut Valley Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing card and board games. She especially loved being a homemaker.
