Doris Mae Boswell, 93, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023, at her home.
Born July 11, 1929, in the family home in Belknap, Kansas, she was the daughter of William "Ray" and Julia "Lorena" (Halfhill) Green. She was raised and received her education in Chautauqua County, graduating from Cedar Vale High School in 1947. After high school, she began her banking career as a teller at First National Bank in Cedar Vale.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Glenn Boswell in June of 1949 in the Chapel at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Vale. The couple made their first home in Sedan and moved to many different locations throughout the years of their marriage, including Kansas City, Borger, Texas; St. Mary's, Onaga, Wheaton, Rose Hill, and Burdick, before returning to the Cedar Vale area in 1967. Doris spent most of her life working at local banks all the while taking careof her family. When they returned to Cedar Vale, she worked at the Cedar Vale State Bank, where she remained for 32 years, retiring in 1999. Raymond preceded her in death on August 18, 1974.
Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Treasurer for both. She was also a 4H leader, teaching many kids to sew. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, and sewing. Doris made both of her daughter's wedding dresses.
Her family includes her children, Blaine Kent Boswell of Cedar Vale; Kirk Eugene Boswell of Cedar Vale; Janice Yvonne Thompson and husband, Norman of Newkirk, OK; Kevin Jon Boswell and girlfriend, Elena Everheart of Winfield; Juanell Rae Potter and husband, Roger of Flippin, AR; her sister-in-law Jo Green Wells of Sedan; her 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by four siblings, Gerald Green, Dorothy Boswell, Barbara Hembree, and Cecil Green.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Cedar Vale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Doris' name for the Belknap Community Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
