Obituary

Dora C. Burris, 95, of Winfield, passed away Monday evening, January 17, 2022, at Winfield Senior Living.

Born November 11, 1926, in Augusta, Kansas, she was the daughter of Bertie Dennis and Mabel Vera (Henry) Finley. Dora was raised and educated all over Kansas including Winfield, McPherson, Inman, Raymond, and spent a short time in Oklahoma while her father worked in the oil fields.

In 1942, Dora was united in marriage to Eugene Lambing in Wellington, Kansas. The couple had five daughters and the family made their home on a farm near Newkirk, Oklahoma. Dora worked in Arkansas City for Dr. Lyon's dental practice. Eugene and Dora divorced in 1973.

She married Jack R. Burris in 1973 in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Anthony, Kansas. While in Anthony, Dora worked for the Citizens National Bank and Trust Company for 12 years until her retirement. Jack preceded Dora in death on November 1, 1989. Dora remained in Anthony until 1990, when she returned to Winfield to be near family.

Dora was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and participated in the Esther Fellowship Circle at the church. She was also a member of Gab & Dab Art Club and the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters. She enjoyed playing golf, painting with oils and acrylics, and making all sorts of crafts. Dora was known by her grandchildren for baking delicious pies. She loved her family first and foremost, and had a passion for helping others, including inviting them into her home, teaching and working with chi
ldren, taking friends to doctor appointments, and making meals for people. She enjoyed people.

Dora is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Crymes and husband, Herschell, of Whitehouse, TX; Darlene Vanderloos and husband, Bill, of Billings, MT; her sister, Jenny Powell of Winfield; her 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dora was preceded in death by her daughters, Vickie Huster, Sylvia Hutton, and Nancy Langdale; and her brothers, Virgil Finley, Jack Finley, and Albert Finley.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Newkirk Cemetery in Newkirk, Oklahoma. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas, on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Dora's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
