Donna M. Wilt, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2020 at Medicalodges in Oxford.
Born September 2, 1933 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Hubert Emmons and Gertrude Frances (Thurber) Deaton. She was raised on several farms in Cowley County and received her early education at several rural one room schoolhouses. She moved with her family to Oxford where she graduated from Oxford High School in 1951.
Donna was united in marriage to Donald Lee Wilt on February 14, 1954 at her parents' home in Oxford, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield and Donna was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, as well as being a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts, receiving two Thanks Badges. She was an avid Jayhawk fan and especially enjoyed watching the basketball team. Donna enjoyed bird watching, going on the Christmas Bird Count each year. She loved history and traveling, and also enjoyed painting, embroidery, crafts, baking, and growing plants in her greenhouse. Mr. Wilt preceded her in death on March 27, 2014.
Her family includes her daughters, Tammy Mapel of Winfield; Victoria Schreiner and husband, Bruce of Shelbyville, KY; her grandchildren, Zachary Mapel and wife, Laine of Mulvane; Keri Schreiner and husband, Josh Solinger of River Falls, WI; Eric Schreiner of Shelbyville, KY; her brother Loren Max Deaton and wife, Laura of Crossville, TN; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 10:00 at Miles Funeral Service. Due to restrictions caused by Covid 19 only family will be allowed to attend the funeral service. Friends may view the service live at www.milesfuneralservice.com. A visitation for friends and family is scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet friends during this time.
Memorials have been established in Donna's name for the Winfield Public Library and the Cowley County Historical Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
