Donald D. Walker, 87, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Sunday evening, September 25, 2011 at Winfield Rest Haven.
Born March 11, 1924 in Duquio, Kansas, he was the son of Roy and Vivian Baker (Clum) Walker. He was raised and received his early education in Duquio. The family moved to a farm north of Udall during his teen years. There, he attended Mulvane High School graduating in 1942. After graduation he stayed at the family farm where he helped his father and brothers.
Don was united in marriage to Gaila Ruth Morgan on May 20, 1945 at her parents home in Udall, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm north of Udall. The day after the Udall tornado in 1955, he began working for the United States Postal Service as a substitute rural mail carrier. He would eventually become a full time rural mail carrier and continued until retiring in 1988.
In 1958, Don and Gaila moved their family to a farm south of Udall where they raised their children. They continued to farm this land until moving to Winfield in 1995. After retiring and moving to Winfield, the couple enjoyed taking bus trips all over the country.
He was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church and later transferred his membership to First United Methodist Church in Winfield. He was also an active member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, playing cards with friends and family and traveling.

His sons: Michael Lee Walker and wife, Nancy Anne of Towanda; Scott Walker and wife, Cathy of Derby;
His sisters-in-law: Bernice Walker of Winfield; Jessie Hatfield and husband, Jess of Black Diamond, WA; Beth Evans and husband, Clifford of Udall;
His 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his five brothers and one grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at the Udall United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday from 4 PM to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Mr. Walker's name for the Udall United Methodist Church and for the Udall Museum. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
