Obituary

DONALD E. VOSSEN, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014 at theKansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born on March 13, 1926 in Ellinwood, Kansas, he was the son of Lambert J. and Marie (Schartz) Vossen. He was raised and received his education in Ellinwood and graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1944. Don attended Pittsburg State University for a semester before enlisting in the United States Army. He served two years before being honorably discharged on November 13, 1946. He returned to Ellinwood and worked for an oilfield supply company,

He was united in marriage to Doris Wishert on November 2, 1956 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Wichita, Kansas and he was employed for Mountain Iron City Sales. The couple later lived in Great Bend where he worked for a sprinkler system company and in Enid, Oklahoma where he worked for an oilfield supply store. In 1970 they moved to Winfield and he was employed for J & L Supply and Craig Morris. Don later worked for Continental EMSCO and delivered chemicals driving back and forth to Pawhuska. He retired from LTV Oilfield Supply in 1978.

Don was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield, American Legion Post #10 and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and golfing and had helped develop the golf course in Ellinwood.

His family includes:
His wife: Doris of Winfield, KS;
His sons: Bruce Vossen of Pawhuska, OK; and Brian Vossen and wife Nancy of Branson, MO;
His daughters: Lisa Thayer and husband Everett of McAlister, OK; Danete Foust of Winfield, KS; and Tammy Drouhard and husband Chris of Winfield, KS;
His 8 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Murphy, Aline Temple and Iona Volk.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.

Memorials have been established in Don's name for the Kansas Veterans Home and the American Legion. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
