Donald Ernest Schifferdecker, 80, of rural Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his home.

Born April 6, 1942, in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Ernest and Charlene (Altizer) Schifferdecker. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas, graduating from Ark City High School in 1960. Following high school, Don attended Emporia State University where he received his undergraduate degree in 1964. He later received his Masters Degree.

He was united in marriage to Karen Slade on August 18, 1963, in Pratt. Following school, Don taught in Clay Center and Wellington for a short time, and Winfield for a year, before beginning his teaching career in Arkansas City. He taught fifth and sixth grade for many years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, Don went to work for the Social Rehabilitation Services as a case manager. He and Karen worked alongside each other until Don retired a second time in the late 90's. Karen preceded Don in death on July 16, 2020.

Don was a member of the Rock United Methodist Church. He loved tractors and enjoyed being a part-time cattle rancher.

His family includes his sons, Alan Schifferdecker of Austin, TX; Jay Schifferdecker of Silvergate, MT; and Jon Schifferdecker and wife, Kelly of Simpsonville, SC; his brother Robert Schifferdecker of Springfield, OR; and his grandson, Matt Schifferdecker.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Karen.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Wilmot Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Rock United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
