Donald R. Reed, 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2014 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born October 27, 1928 in Prim, Oklahoma, he was the son of Ralph Noah and Esther Amy (Lorenz) Reed. He was raised and received his education in Southard, Oklahoma. After school, he moved to Henrietta with his grandparents and when he turned 18, he moved to Oklahoma City where he began working as a form setter in construction. He worked on many highways in Oklahoma as well as helped build the dam in Canton, Oklahoma.
Donald was united in marriage to Gertrude "Annabelle" Bain on March 17, 1950 in Oklahoma City. The couple made their first home in Oklahoma City, where Donald worked as a machinist. In 1951, they moved to Winfield, Kansas, and he began working as a Sheet Metal worker at Beech Aircraft on July 17, 1951. While at Beech, he worked on the first flight simulator and retired after 40 years as an Experimental Technician in 1991.
He was a member of GracePointe Assembly of God in Winfield. He enjoyed fishing and bowling.

His brothers: Jim Reed and wife, Sylvia of Winfield; Alfred Reed and wife, Margaret of Arkansas City; Alvin Reed and wife, Cindy of Broken Arrow, OK;
His sisters: Louise Scarth of Winfield; Virginia Lathers and husband, Ted of Arkansas City; and
His 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents Donald was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Misty and Kristy Croft and two brothers-in-law, Frank Scarth and Glen Bain.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at GracePointe Assembly of God in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Donald's name for GracePointe Assembly of God Children's Camp Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
