Obituary

Donald D. King, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, January 4, 2014 at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor.

Born March 26, 1927 in Winfield, Kansas he was the son of Earl A. and Bessie (Riggs) King. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. He later attended Southwestern College where he received his Bachelors Degree. After school Don proudly served his county in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Winfield.

Don was united in marriage to Ila Vaughn in August of 1948 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield and Don began working for Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita. He remained at Boeing his entire career, retiring in 1983. Ila preceded him in death.

In July of 1981 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Teel in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Elizabeth preceded him in death.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield, the American Legion Post #10, the Winfield Masonic Lodge and was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America Troop #314.

His family includes:

His daughters: Cindy Hanes and husband, Mike of Winfield; Terry Pike and husband, Rick of Ashland; Sharon Palmer and husband, Jim of Arkansas City;
His stepson: Terry Teel of Indianapolis, IN;
His stepdaughter: Suzanne Wright and husband, Brad of Colombia, MO;
His grandchildren: Riley King; Peyton King; Bryan Hanes; Brady Hanes; Scott Pike; Lori Cain; Jesse Palmer;
His step grandchildren: Brandi Wright; Abby Wright; Sam Wright;
His great grandchildren: Isaac Hanes; Caitlyn Pike; Damian Cain; Ashlyn Cain;
His step great grandchildren: Emmett Wright; Harry Wright; Tessa Wright; and
Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe King, Sam King, Dorothy Howard, Louise West, Charlene Lacy, Betty Dobson, Viola Curtis, and Maxine King, and a grandson, Todd Pike.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Don's name for the Boy Scouts of America Troop #314 in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
