Donald Ray Killingsworth, 77, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at his home.
Born November 29, 1943 in Dexter, he was the son of William Clell and Caroline Ada (Dyke) Killingsworth. He was raised and received his early education in Dexter before moving with his family to Wichita where he attended high school. Following school, he opened D&D Garage with his brother Dale.
Donald was united in marriage to Teresa L. "Terry" Cox on April 6, 1976 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Arkansas City where Don continued working as a mechanic at Reedy Ford and later, Santa Fe Railroad. In 1983, he went to work for Cowley County Road and Bridge Department. He and Terry moved to Dexter in 1986. Don remained with the county until retiring as foreman in 2006. Terry preceded him in death on March 16, 2003.
Don was a member of the Dexter Civic Club and was a corn shucker for the Dexter BBQ. He enjoyed meeting with his weekend coffee club, visiting with friends, hunting, fishing, mowing grass, playing with his grand dogs, and loved watching Jeopardy. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
His family includes his daughters, Tina Killingsworth of Oklahoma; Penny Killingsworth of Florida; Carla King of Oklahoma; Rebecca Neukirch of Wichita; Lacey Ware and husband, Ryan of Dexter; his sisters, Lydia Smith of Texas; Sue Pappan of Wichita; Faye Hansen and husband, Warren of Mulvane; his brother Kent Killingsworth and wife Lyn of Dexter; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by a brother Dale Killingsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Don's name for the Dexter School District Athletic Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
