Obituary

Donald L. Kephart, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, February 20, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans Home.

Born February 15, 1932 in Maxville, Kansas, he was the son of Budge and Florence Kephart. He was raised and received his education in Ford, Kansas, graduating from Ford High School. After school he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he returned to Ford.

Donald was united in marriage to Jean Taylor in 1951 in Ford. The couple made their first home on the family farm near Ford. In 1969 Donald went to work for High Plaines Dress Beef where he remained for over 20 years until retiring as a supervisor in 1993. In 2001 he moved to the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Mrs. Kephart preceded him in death on February 25, 2009.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed working in his yard.

His family includes:
His sons: Mark Kephart of Dodge City; Cam Kephart of Dodge City; Steve Kephart of Garden City;
His daughter: Jan Simmons of Bucklin;
His sister: Carol Urban of Nebraska; and
His 7 grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Donald's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
