Obituary

Donald Chester "Donnie" Andes, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday night, March 18, 2021 at his home.

Born October 19, 1940 in Winfield, he was the son of Chester "Chet" and Myrtle (Miller) Andes.  He was raised and received his education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1958. When Donnie was 10 years old, he had Polio, and his parents were told he would never walk again. His mother took him down to Silver Creek everyday until he was able to recover. Donnie began working in the oil fields when he was only 16. After high school he took a job pumping gas in Winfield.

Donnie married Charlys Robison in Winfield. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced.

On February 25, 1971 he was united in marriage to Janice Butler in Winfield. The couple made their home on the family farm east of Winfield. Donnie continued working as a pumper in the oil field in addition to farming and ranching, his entire life. He was a member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, and later a member of Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield. He enjoyed playing pitch and drag racing with those brave enough to pull up beside him. He had a great since of humor and loved razzing his friends and family.

His family includes his wife Janice Andes of Winfield; his children, Keith Andes and wife, Mendy of Winfield; Krystal Smith of Maui, HI; Kelly Miles of Winfield; April James and husband, Samuel of Marshfield, MO; Amy Dennis and husband, Merlin of Marshfield, MO; his brother Tommy Andes and wife, Sharon of Winfield; his grandchildren, Austin Andes; Adam Andes and wife, Shauna; Brittney Pauley and husband, Randy; Rachel Podschun and husband, Jon; Madison James; Macie James; Carter James; McKinley James; Merlin Dennis Jr.; Merrick Dennis; his great grandchildren, Carson Andes, Conner Andes, Cameron Andes, Titus Pauley, Scarlett Pauley, Hadden Pauley, Rory Podschun, Theo Podschun; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Andes and Gary Andes, and a sister Vickie Metzinger.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors that evening.

A memorial has been established in Donnie's name for Future Farmers of America. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
