Obituary

DON STIMMEL of Winfield, Kansas, passed away late Tuesday night, September 9, 2014 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.

Born in Upper Nazareth Township, Pennsylvania, he was one of nine children born to Morris Herbert, Sr. and Ada Jane (Eisenhard) Stimmel. His mother died at a young age and he was then raised by his father and step-mother, Stella V. (Milhiem). Don was raised and received his education in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, graduating from Nazareth High School. He then joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. Don worked for Binney & Smith Inc. for over 37 years. He began in Easton, Pennsylvania and transferred to the Winfield plant. He started the plastics department and was manager over production, engineering and distribution departments throughout his career.

He was united in marriage to Debbie Constien on May 21, 1983 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Winfield. Don was a volunteer firefighter while in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. After retirement, Don owned and operated 6th Avenue Mini Golf in Winfield. He was an active member of the Winfield community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club and the Elk's Lodge. Over the years, he was involved with United Way, Junior Achievement, Chamber of Commerce and Isle of Lights. He also coached youth sports and belonged to and was an officer for the Binney & Smith 25 year Club. Don enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing and loved sports. He was an avid collector of Binney & Smith memorabilia.

His family includes:
His wife: Debbie of Winfield;
His son: Jonathan Stimmel and wife, Candace of Fayetteville, AR;
His brother: Kenneth L. Stimmel; and
His sisters: Nancy L. Burwell and Shirley A. Molenda.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Arline Wessner, Pauline Long, Betty Martin, Ruth Lichtenwalner and Morris Stimmel, Jr.

Memorial services and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established in Don's name for the American Cancer Society and to First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
