Don Potter, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, June 18, 2017 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born May 26, 1926 in Frankfort, Kansas, he was the son of Dean and Lenora (George) Potter. He was raised and received his education in Frankfort, graduating from Frankfort High School in 1944. After school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Frankfort.
Don was united in marriage to Evelyn on September 1, 1947 in Frankfort. The couple made their first home in Manhattan, Kansas, while Don attended Kansas State University. He graduated from Kansas State with a Bachelor's of Science in Architecture in 1950. Following school, he accepted a position with Bill Caton in Winfield, Kansas. In the 1970's Don and partner Robert Yadon purchased the business from Mr. Caton, and Don continued working in the business until his retirement in 1990. In the 40 years he worked as an Architect in Winfield, he was responsible for designing over 150 homes as well as working on several area businesses. He was very proud of his work on the Cowley County Courthouse, First United Methodist Church, Southwestern College, 800 Main Place, and Cumbernauld Village.
Don was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and the College Hill Coffee Group. He played Baritone as a member of the Winfield City Band for many years. He enjoyed drawing, fishing, golf, and attending City Band Concerts. He was an avid K-State sports fan, and particularly enjoyed attending K-State football games.

His brothers: Allan Potter and wife, Carolyn of WA; Dean Potter and wife, Karen of Edmond, OK; and
His 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 22, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Wednesday evening from 4 to 7. The family will greet visitors from 5:00 to 6:30 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Don's name for the Alzheimer's Association and First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
