Obituary

DON W. DRAKE, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away March 26, 2013 at his home.

Born December 10, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Vernon and Neva (Weigle) Drake. He attended Floral grade school through the eighth grade. Don graduated from Winfield High School in 1950. He received his Bachelor's in Animal Science from Kansas State University in 1955. While attending college, Don was an active member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the college livestock judging team.

After ROTC training, he was inducted as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Air Force. Don was united in marriage to Joan David on June 3, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield, Kansas. After serving 3 years in the Air Force, he returned to Winfield to operate the Drake Family Cattle and Farming Operation with his father.

Don served on the Board of Directors of CornerBank in Winfield from 1987 to 2007. He was active in the community serving on numerous boards and organizations. Don enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

His family includes:

His sons: David Drake and wife, Krista of Derby; and Scott Drake and wife, Shana of Winfield;
His brother: Mark Drake and wife, Paula of McPherson;
His sister: Diane Sidwell and husband, Walter of Tucson, AZ;
His aunts: Dorothy Bernard and husband, Henry of Winfield; and Geneva Hayes of Wichita;
His son-in-law: Milford Schulhof of Centennial, CO; and
His grandchildren: Todd, Ty and Taylor Drake, Meg, Madilyn and Logan Drake, and Lindsey and Erin Schulhof.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Lynn Drake Schulhof.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Grandview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday, March 28 from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6:30 to 8 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Don's name for the Cowley County 4H Development Fund and for Grandview United Methodist Church or may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
