Obituary

DON F. BRYANT, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 7, 2008 at his home.

Don was born on January 31, 1948 in Winfield, Kansas where he was raised and received his education. He entered the National Reserves and later proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division serving in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Kansas Army National Guard in Ft. Riley where he finished his tour of duty.

Don was employed at General Electric as an inspector. In 1974 he began employment for AT & SF Railway where he was a machine operator. He was united in marriage to Betty J. Riggs on April 18, 1975 in Winfield where the couple made their home. He retired from BNSF this past July.

He was an avid fisherman and also loved spending time with his family, and going to garage sales and auctions.

His family includes:
His wife: Betty of the home;
His sons: Mark Riggs and wife Gina of Arkansas City, KS; and Kyle Bryant of Dodge City, KS;
His daughter: Amy Farney and husband Shawn of Medford, OK;
His grandchildren: Tiffany and Mackenzie Farney, Halle Riggs and Gabrielle Birdwell.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nadine Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 10, 2008. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Don's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
